Beyond the Blue
Beyond the Blue’ is a joint exhibition by two abstract artists, and two photographers. Living close to the sea has influenced how they see the world and how they live their lives. This is reflected in the art and the photography in the exhibition. Karen Hopkins’ paintings depict shades of blue as she evokes memories of days by the sea. Her wood and clay sculptures are of fish and people interacting. Kim Maple uses layers of colours of the sea, sky and sand to build up calm but evocative images.
Surf photographer Hugh Davis demonstrates his love of the ocean with shots of local and international surfers taken from sea level. His photographs show the power of the sea and surfers’ attempts to control the waves. Marion Milton, on the other hand, depicts the calmness of sunrise and sunset over water.
