Sue Cross
Sue was born in Tidworth, England. From a young age she spent many hours drawing and art was a great interest during her school years. After leaving school Sue pursued a career in cartography, working in the fields of aerial mapping and landscape architecture. Sue migrated to Australia in 1982 where her cartographic career continued, until leaving the workforce to start a family in 1989. During this time Sue returned to study horticulture, which rekindled her interest in art, specifically botanical art.
With a desire to broaden her horizons, Sue attended various workshops at TAFE and University extension courses and although horticultural interests continued, artistic pursuits began to take centre stage. Watercolour became Sue’s medium of choice and although botanical art was the first step this was soon expanded to enjoy the challenge of other subject matter, in particular capturing water and its reflections and the sense of drama, shadow and light can create around everyday objects. Since her first small exhibition at a local café, Sue has gone on to achieve recognition at the following exhibitions.
