Steve Logan

Steve Logan’s art reflects his attraction to popular culture, the pop art movement and paintings by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Finding faces that are instantly recognisable, Steve then deconstructs them, so that his art moves from reality to abstraction. He creates large art works in acrylic on canvas which have vibrancy, immediacy and appeal. While not all of his paintings are of famous people, the viewer is drawn to them and can relate to the feelings invoked by the subject. By using a modern style, painted with a limited palette, Steve’s art is arresting and intriguing.

Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Steve Logan completed a Fine Arts degree at Canterbury University in 1982. After attaining Honours in Fine Art he completed a course in Graphic Design, specialising in photography. While studying, Steve held two solo exhibitions of photography at the Canterbury Society of Arts, New Zealand.

In 1985 he moved to Melbourne and was employed as an illustrator and designer for a selection of advertising agencies. Whilst working in advertising he had several solo and group exhibitions in Melbourne. Since moving to live in Perth in the late eighties, Steve has taken part in numerous joint exhibitions. Mind’s Eye is his first solo exhibition in Perth.
