‘Wonderful West’ is an exhibition of original paintings of West Australian landscapes to be opened by Kate Lamont in her role as Chair of Tourism WA. The exhibition will run from Sept 12th –Oct 3rd, 2008 at Lumiere Gallery, 10 Station St, Cottesloe.
Popular Fremantle based artist Leon Holmes is joined by Peter Moir, Penny Herbert and Aurelie Yeo to depict scenes including the Pilbara and the Karijini gorge region in the north, areas just outside of the metropolitan area such as York, local beaches including Cottesloe and Rottnest and the south west.
The styles of the artists vary from realism to impressionism. Although the artists use different styles and mediums, each explores the way in which light and shade play on the contours of WA at different times of the day, from the muted tones of early morning, or vibrant colours at midday to the evening glow. The exhibition offers the visitor the opportunity to view and purchase paintings of familiar places as a lasting reminder.
The exhibition is listed on WA Tourism’s website:
